CMCC Foundation

The Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici, CMCC; https://www.cmcc.it/) is a non-profit research institution established in 2005, with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea (MATTM), the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies (MIPAF) and the Ministry of Finance (MEF), thanks to the Integrative Special Research Fund (FISR), within the National Strategic Programme for Research. On 10th December 2015 the Center became a Foundation, therefore representing CMCC’s legal status, its contents, aims and operational modalities. Since the beginning, the CMCC’s Mission is to investigate and model the climate system and its interactions with the society and the environment, to guarantee reliable, rigorous and timely scientific results contributing to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate. CMCC’s scientific activities are distributed among nine research divisions (https://www.cmcc.it/research-organization/research-divisions), which share different knowledge and skills in the field of climate science: ASC – Advanced Scientific Computing; CSP - Climate Simulations and Predictions; ECIP – Economic analysis of Climate Impacts and Policy; IAFES - Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services; ODA – Ocean modeling and Data Assimilation; OPA – Ocean Predictions and Applications; RAAS - Risk Assessment and Adaptation Strategies; REMHI – REgional Models and geo-Hydrological Impacts; SEME – Sustainable Earth Modelling Economics. The CMCC Scientific organization aims at enhancing the integration and collaboration among interdisciplinary skills needed to deal with climate sciences related topics.
